MY URBAN LEGEND ESSAY

Urban Legend Essay
An urban legend Is an second hand story told as true and plausible enough to be believed about some horrific embarrassing, ironic or exasperating series of events that has supposedly happened to a real person. Urban legends get started, they are modern folktales. Initially passed on by word of mouth and always second or third hand. Like ex. “A friend of a friend” told me this happen. That is how a lot of legend gets started.

*BLOODY MARY *
It was said if you say Bloody Mary 13times in the mirror her ugly reflection will appear. Chanting”Bloody Mary” in front of a candlelit mirror will bring a vengeful spirit you will kill the person who was chanting her name. The research into Bloody Mary goes back to 1960s.T his activity mostly happens at little girl’s sleepovers, lights off. Queen killed young girls so she could bathe in their blood to preserve her youthful appearance. It has been said that she kills the person who’s calling her name, scratches their eyes out. Or even pulls them into the mirror. This has not been proven true, but a lot of people like myself tried it. And the only result I got was fearfulness and I thought I seen a greenish red light appear in the mirror. IF your wondering what really happens try it yourself : ).
*BABY OIL DANGER*
This legend claims that infants have died or suffered depilating respiration problems after using baby oil. This legend is true the oil was all over the child and got into there lungs and the oil started to get coated up in the bronchial tubes. And slowly started suffocating the child. This had been discovered to be true. There’s been two cases of this accident and sadly killed both infants. In may 2001, and 1991.Yes this is a true urban legend before I read about it I thought it was just something someone made up. But I learned that this is true and it can happen and be very careful when using baby oil on a child this is a true legend.

*EMILY ROSE*
The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a 2005 horror/thriller . The film is based on the true story of Anneliese Michael, a young Catholic woman from Germany who died in 1976 after unsuccessful attempts to cure her from the alleged state of demonic possession with the use of psychotropic drugs. A church-approved exorcism was performed on her, according to her wish. According to the court, her death was caused by medical neglect of the priest watching over her. The story of her short life which consisted of strong faith and an exhausting struggle with what seemed to be supernatural powers served as the basis for this horror movie. This movie was based on a true story and it was said after you watch this movie and you got to sleep and dream about. She will appear in your dreams and haunt you and you will come across of a case of amnesia. It hasn’t been proven true that this really does happen but I heard from a friend it does. And many people have written about Emily rose and the dream they had about her.

In conclusion An urban legend or urban myth is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories thought to be factual by those circulating them. ." Like all folklore, urban legends are not necessarily false, but they are often distorted, exaggerated, or sensationalized over time. Many urban legends are framed as complete stories with plot and characters. Many urban legends depict horrific crimes, contaminated foods or other situations which would affect many people. Anyone believing such stories might feel a little fear.

Media Violence

Media violence effects different people in different ways.Media violence can effect people emotionally and physically.Children are affected in media violence because they fill the need to fit in and be like everybody else so they wont get teased so they buy what they think is cool..Kids now watch so much t.v it corrupts there minds and smaller children dont understand that alot of t.v things characters do are are false. Something that you are not able to do in real life but they try it any way.I feel that cartonist should should start watching what they put in cartoons and children movies and shows. Almost every cartoon has violence in it (ex.Power Rangers). They get influenced by what they watch. Video games are really a major factor because you get so invloved cause your playing the person yourself. Media violence is nothing that can be stop or cut down I think as the years go by media violence will progress unfortunatally.
